The saying, “time flies when you’re having fun” couldn’t be truer than during this summer at Sci-Tech. While Sci-Tech is filled with new, innovative, and exciting activities, it is really the people who make camp the special place it has become over the past 9 years, and the past 2 weeks. Todah Rabah (thank you) for making this session so special.

Havdallah Remarks from Campers

James of Sagan
I started in 2019, and although obviously a lot has changed since then, both at camp and throughout the world, there’s been some constants that I’d like to allude to. One of those people that have been constant throughout my entire Sci-Tecy experience was DFP instructor Adam. Adam ironically has been someone that has guided me throughout all of my years here. 2019 is when he was my machon, last year he was my counselor, and this year as my lead instructor. And obviously another one of those things that stayed constant is this event that we’re in right now – TECH Talks. It’s always an amazing time to be able to reflect with all of our friends and just strengthen all of our connections that we make throughout the summer. This idea of community has always been extremely important for me. It’s a place where I can relax. It’s a place where I can be myself. I don’t have to worry about keeping an outward appearance that I do when I’m at school. And it’s just a wonderful home away from home that I’ve always been excited to come to. I’m definitely going to miss this place a lot. It’s been a great experience. It’s song session to workshop to silly hall activities like our Kirby ritual that I’m sure everyone has heard about. It’s just been an amazing experience. So to all the staff, the campers, and the community, I’d like to say thank you for making these three summers an amazing three summers in my life. I hope to see you all back again to in two years with an orange lanyard around my neck.
Seal of Sagan
I have been at Sci-Tech three years now, and I’ve loved it for four because COVID year. There is something truly wonderful about Sci-Tech. Maybe a lot of some things. Of course, one of the some things is the workshops, even though the work itself goes secondary. workshop is a place to connect just like any other circle on campus. But it doesn’t divide. Even last year, for those of you who were here, had a dorm with at least one other workshop, and there were always chugim. But I think the main something is kesher, connection, no offense to the other values. Sci-Tech is a mix of all different people that all have things big or small in common. Sci-Tech is a place where I love being everything I am. I’ve loved being a nerd working on my TECH Talk, loved being queer wearing a rainbow on Pride Day Friday, but most of all, loved being Jewish. I love being Jewish jokingly reminding my friends to show kavod (respect) to me. I love being Jewish singing in Hebrew 10 times a day. I love being Jewish at Sci-Tech. I’ve made some of the best friends in the world here and learned some amazing things about science. about Judaism, and about myself. I will never forget the people here, will never forget the common rooms in Rosie and Katz and now Sagan. I can’t wait to come back here as a Machon or counselor or who knows what. I can’t wait to come back to Byfield. Thank you. Shabbat Shalom.

My Sci-Tech experience started last year. I came, had fun, made friends, and this year I thought I’d have to start over. I came, and I was pleasantly surprised. I sure did get to meet new friends, but I also had fun with old ones. We did all kinds of things this session from starting revolutions in our halls to everything else. But these kinds of things, it’s what we do at camp. It’s how we live at camp. I’m just happy that I was able to be here for it, and I can’t wait to do it again next year. So thank you all.

Josh of Ramon

I would like to thank my hall friends and counselors for making my first year special. I enjoyed all the fun I had with people in Video Game Design and all of my chugim. The first week, I got the chugim Chemistry, 3D Printing and LARP and the Shabbat Shelective Puzzles. In Chemistry, Ben the Chemist and David made our minds blow. In 3D printing, we got to print cool designs, and it gave me info about my own 3D printer. LARP was fun and action packed. Puzzles with Sam was cool, and Koshermon with Rabbi Emma was interesting. The second week, I got Chemistry and 3D printing again which I was excited about. I got Tennis this time which was fun, exciting, and chill. And today, I got to help Sam, Emma, and Idan finish the Frosty Frost puzzle. Song session was fun and entertaining. However, none of this would be possible for me without the counselors who spent time teaching me and others, including Ben, David, Dvir, Ben, Neta, the Evil Tim, Maya, and of course, the best counselors ever who entertained Ramon 1 – Willow, Emma, Sam, and the DM, the excellent egg shed, AKA Eshed or Steampunk Eshed. I also enjoyed the friends I made. There’s so many that I don’t have enough time to give shoutouts. Don’t forget about the amazing Ramon 1 traditions – the Squirtle Wordle and Shrek the Musical, plus DND. Thank you all for listening, and I’m glad I could have had all these experiences.

Noah of Rosie

And this has also been the best summer of my life. The activities here at Sci-Tech were life changing for me. I was in the Robotics workshop that has inspired me to do work to do robotics as a career. When I first arrived the camp, I didn’t know anybody. And now, I’ve made so many more friends. I loved all my chugim including Chemistry, Minecraft, Magic: the Gathering, Puzzles. I also like how on hall night, we did LARPing. I learned lots of new things, including how to play Magic: the Gathering. I also learned how to work with VEX robots and how awesome the community here is. I learned from my counselors Gil, Micah, Ben, my machonichim, Ezra and Eli. I’m so sad to go, but I will never forget the incredible time I had here at camp. I will 100% come back next year.

Hava of Baer
It’s my third year here at Sci-Tech, and every year just becomes more and more fun as I explore this place more and more. It has basically become my second home. When I came here, my mindset changes. I can be who I want to be without other people judging me about myself. I’d like to thank everyone that came here for the first session for making this place more like home and making it better for everyone that came here.

The Sci-Tech Times

At each meal in the Chadar Ochel (dining hall), the Sci-Tech Times is presented as a slideshow with the weather, interesting STEM content, drashes, Hebrew words, pioneer scientists, and photos from the day. During the Journalism chug, campers collaborated to make a printed edition to distribute to all of camp.
