Highlights of Chugim

We are in the second week of chugim (electives)! After counselors presented the chug they are offering, campers were able to select two from a list that included:

✓ Arduino ✓ Drones ✓ Minecraft
✓ Arts & Crafts ✓ Dungeons & Dragons ✓ Puzzles
✓ Board Games ✓ Journalism ✓ Rocketry
✓ Chemistry ✓ Knitting ✓ Rubik’s
✓ Coding ✓ Magic: The Gathering ✓ Songleading

These exciting electives change each week, and it’s an opportunity for campers to experience a wide variety of activities, both nerdy and creative.

In the Minecraft chug, campers are building a Sci-Tech amusement park. They are using the education edition of the game to collaborate as they implement their design plan.

Quilling and bubble painting has been a favorite in the Arts & Crafts chug. Campers are building a portfolio with a new project each day. In the Chemistry chug, meanwhile, one experiment was painting with dyed shaving cream.

Breaking News: Journalism now offered as chug

The Journalism chug is new this week after campers were inspired by the Sci-Tech Times, a daily slideshow of camp photos and interesting STEM content in the dining hall. At meals, campers have been fascinated to learn the chemistry behind colors of fireworks, Pythagoras’ aversion to beans, and even a pretend wedding announcement.

The chug has provided space for them to become their own leaders in producing a newspaper. Campers pitched content for a printed edition of the Sci-Tech Times and conducted sample interviews. They are currently working diligently to meet their deadline, so you will be the first to see their work when it publishes!
