Quest Day: Sending Our Heroes Back to Earth

Tuesday, July 5, 2022

Hello there, questling! Are you ready to help these heroes make it back to Earth? It’s going to be a challenging task, but it’s one that is a perfect fit for Sci-Tech campers. Teamwork is a key virtue, and it’s the only way we can accomplish this mission successfully. Do you accept this challenge?

When the heroes crashed into the “alien planet” at Boker Big Bang this morning, our campers accepted, with great enthusiasm, the first ever Quest Day!

Before embarking on exciting camp activities, questers were separated into five teams, each representing one of the heroes: the navigator, engineer, pilot, scientist, and medic. Lightsaber duels, decorating space suits, decoding complex cryptic messages, and crafting aerodynamic paper airplanes were among the tasks that earned questers strength, speed, intellect, and charisma skill points represented as prize tokens.

Later in the day, the quest continued as groups participated in activities led by their unit heads. Some questers built whimsical devices – but not traditional rockets! – that could somehow bring the heroes home to Earth. And this was successful when all of camp led the heroes through the alien planet during part three of the quest, concluding with a countdown and takeoff.

“While most URJ camps hype their Maccabiah (Color War) games, Sci-Tech is unique,” programming coordinator Hannah Jay said. “Quest Day is a great opportunity for campers to work as a team on a large-scale through activities that cover a wide range of interests.”

This session’s Quest Day theme was space, and that means the next two quests this summer will feature different activities and heroes. Once again, do you accept this challenge?
