MARCH 2026
Hello Sci-Tech! Even though it is cold and snowy outside, we are already starting to dream about camp and plan for this summer! We have two upcoming Sci-Tech alumni events, so please mark your calendars.
This year’s Alumni Weekend will be July 24 – 26. As part of our Alumni Weekend programming we are excited to honor Sci-Tech’s 13th Summer with the wider community at a B-Mitzvah celebration on Saturday morning! This will be in addition to the other Alumni Weekend activities we have come to know and love. Mark your calendars and keep an eye out for more information and registration soon.
If you are in or near Boston, please join us Saturday, March 7th, for an in-person event! Alumni will join next summer’s leadership team for a fun evening of bowling at American Flatbread Brighton. See below for registration and more information.
Keep reading for a message from the Director, Jayme Dale Mallindine, about the big and exciting changes coming for Summer 2027!

A Message from the Director
Hey Sci-Tech alumni! You might have heard from our announcement on January 19th, but there are big changes ahead for Summer 2027!
After 13 summers at our beloved Governor’s Academy, it is time for us to move! Over the years, the needs of our community have outgrown what Governor’s Academy can provide (including but not limited to our desire for air-conditioned dorms, an indoor pool, and modernized dorms and facilities). It is time for us to, like a crab that’s outgrown its shell, molt and build a new, stronger exoskeleton!

In Summer 2027, we will move to the Westtown School in Pennsylvania (just outside Philadelphia). As part of the move, we will welcome our friends at Creative Arts (the folks who currently live there in the summer) into our community, and they will welcome us to their summer home. We will merge, Power Rangers style, and become one beautiful camp with increased workshop/programmatic options for all our campers. Devon Barker, Michele Metsch, and I toured the campus a couple of weeks ago. Even covered in snow, the beauty of the grounds and the up-to-date facilities really blew us away! The staff there were warm, welcoming, and inclusive, all values that we hold dear at Sci-Tech.
Change and transition is always hard, even if it is a “change for the better!” (as we like to say at Sci-Tech), so we appreciate your support as we explore and discover new ways for our community to grow and expand in the years to come.
Speaking of how you can help support this new chapter… This summer, we will host our 13th summer celebration! I really hope to see you all there, whether as a staff/volunteer member or as an alum attending our alumni event! This celebration, and this whole summer, will be a combination of saying goodbye, showing gratitude for all the ways Sci-Tech has evolved over the years, and dreaming together about the future to come and what’s important for us to take with us.
While Sci-Tech has always been about the people, about being a community that is curious, creative, and kind, we are also grateful for the little piece of swamp we call home. I’m excited to celebrate the spirit of our community AND our appreciation for a campus that has cared for us as we’ve grown from a baby camp to a 13-year-old teenager!

Alum of the Month:
Alumni Spotlight: Saryn Taylor
Saryn Taylor is our alumni spotlight for our March newsletter! Starting off as a pioneer camper in 2014, Saryn quickly fell in love with filmmaking from her first Digital Film Production (DFP) workshop and continued to be a Sci-Tech camper until she aged out in 2016. Continuing that, Saryn was on the first Sci-Tech Israel trip where she met one of her closest friends and connected with so many camp people.
After high school, Saryn went on to get a degree in Telecommunication and a minor in Innovation from the University of Florida, while also pursuing her love of documentary filmmaking and content creation. Then, the sounds of Sci-Tech called her home, and she became the co-lead instructor of DFP in 2024.
“My life completely changed track, and I couldn’t have imagined a better schedule change.”
Since 2024, Saryn has become invested in the camp life, returning the following year and will be the sole DFP Instructor for Summer 2026. Saryn also works part-time as the Sci-Tech Communications Coordinator, putting together the graphics you see and emails you read. She also most recently hosted the first-ever Sci-Tech Film-A-Thon with her co-lead instructor, David Shuldiner.
In her free time, Saryn sews and does cosplay (@sparkofsaryndipity) and pretty much picks up a hobby every week. Just like so many people, Sci-Tech is a home to Saryn, and while the move is bittersweet, she’s excited for the future of camp!
