DECEMBER 2025
Hello Sci-Tech! We hope all of you are doing well; as the days get shorter and the weather gets colder, we hope that these newsletters can be a source of warmth for you. This newsletter gets sent out once every quarter, so this will be our last of the year –– and we have lots of fun and exciting information to close it out!
On December 15th and 16th, we will have our annual Game-a-Thon! This is our opportunity to gather together virtually and raise money for our scholarship fund to send even more kids to camp. You can donate here to any team you want, or join us on Twitch and watch some familiar camp faces play games and have fun –– for our Alumni team, we’ll be hosting a live Sci-Tech trivia show!
In addition, some exciting news –– we will be opening up our Alumni Discord to all camp Alumni 18+ years old! More details can be found below!
And, as always, keep in mind that our newsletter is Alumni Powered. Did you recently start a new job? Maybe you moved to a new location or some other big life change? Whatever it may be, you can always submit your news, camp photos, or Alum of the Month nominations here, and we’ll feature them in our next issue.
In this newsletter:
- Learn about our featured Alum: Eli Beyer
- Join our Alumni Discord!
- Hear about the new Level 2 of our Game Club!
- Apply now to work at camp!

Alum of the Month:
Alumni Spotlight: Eli Beyer
Eli Beyer joined Sci-Tech as a camper in the Pioneer Summer of 2014, and camp has been a part of their life in various forms ever since. They fondly remember counting down the days until the start of the summer each year, reflecting on how important both the community and Sci-Tech’s unique ability to offer access to things one may otherwise never see at that age were so important for their growth during that time.
It was Digital Film Production, in particular, that sparked something profound in Eli. “DFP inspired me and was one of the first things that really bloomed my artistic side and creativity,” he reflects. Among their favorite memories is a seemingly small but meaningful detail: the custom Magic The Gathering cards the Video Game Design instructors gave campers, themed after the characters in their games. Eli still has his on his wall at home today.
Years later, through a serendipitous series of events, Eli returned to camp as a staff videographer, and, at a time of transition, recalls how delightful it was getting to document the very place that had set them on their creative path in a beautiful full-circle moment.
Eli’s camp experience largely contributed to their decision to study film at NYU with a minor in ASL. After graduation, work at Nashville Children’s Theatre connected them to the local deaf and hard of hearing community, where he has been doing incredibly valuable work ever since. Today, while also moonlighting at the Nashville Zoo, Eli primarily works as an educational assistant at the Tennessee School for the Deaf, with plans to complete formal ASL interpreter and educational interpreter training soon to help even better connect our communities and further increase widespread accessibility. Despite not having planned to be an educator, he finds the work has proven to be deeply meaningful.
Eli ends by echoing the words of our camp directors: “Sci-Tech is the people.” For Eli, those summers sparked a lifetime of creative work and meaningful connections. “It’s incredible how so little time can have such a big impact”.
