“Anyone can have an impact, no matter how long they’ve been here.” – Sammy Chklovskii
Legacies at Sci-Tech: A Documentary
On a global scale, a small summer camp in an even smaller town would seemingly have a minuscule impact; however, in that same small summer camp, an entirely different world exists. A world of song and science and storytelling. David and I strive to teach the art of storytelling every single day at camp as Digital Film Production instructors, but we felt that we needed to share the stories of others at camp who have made lasting impacts.
Everything we do as staff is for our campers: to help them have the best summer ever, but there are so many moments, so many stories, that lie hidden beneath the surface, and David and I set out to uncover just a few of them.
Ranging from staff members who grew up coming to camp when they were kids to some who learned about this magical place through an online application, Legacies at Sci-Tech showcases that it doesn’t matter who you are or how long you’ve been at camp; anyone can make a difference in a camper’s life.
David and I started planning this documentary last spring and spent the summer shooting and editing the six and a half minute piece, facing our share of challenges and difficulties that, while frustrating, helped make this movie so much more meaningful. We would’ve loved to hear from everyone on staff about the impacts they’ve made throughout camp, but instead we focused on the following: Troy Mundschenk, Sean Crancher, Sam Sheran, and Sammy Chklovskii. These four individuals bring so much heart and soul to Sci-Tech and share about the concrete changes they’ve made at camp, as well as discuss the unique and enveloping community.
We hope you enjoy Legacies at Sci-Tech and know that if you’ve ever been to our small but mighty camp, either on staff, as a camper, or in any other form, know that even just one program, one conversation, one smile, can create a lasting impact on someone.

Saryn and David are Co-Lead Instructors for the Digital Film Production workshop at URJ 6 Points Sci-Tech Academy. Each of them has a deep love of film as well as a long history with Sci-Tech, having been campers for many years themselves.
