We have a tradition at Sci-Tech that takes place in March, but we get to celebrate each session here at camp. March 14 is also known as Pi Day and celebrates the first three numbers of the math symbol Pi, 3.14. The Sci-Tech community celebrates this day with an epic Minecraft event that brings together campers, alumni, and staff on a special Sci-Tech Minecraft Server. The activities vary each year, but often include running through obstacle courses together, participating in creative builds, and completing fun challenges together. The annual Sci-Tech Minecraft Pi Day event is a fundraiser where campers raise money for scholarships, so more campers can experience the magic of Sci-Tech.

While we come together virtually during the winter months, during camp we embrace the ability to come together in person and celebrate our highest fundraisers and other participants. This session we pulled three participant names from a beaker and all three of them got to throw a pie in Rabbi Dan’s face!  Our winning fundraisers will be celebrated during the next two sessions – keep an eye out for more on that.

Getting to toss a pie at the director brings giggles to all of the kids (and staff!). Rabbi Dan is a great sport and more than up for the challenge! He even jumped right in and fully embraced the Boker Big Bang experiment of the day, Mentos in Soda that makes a rainbow fountain!

What a great way to start a Friday morning as the entire camp looks forward to the first Shabbat of 2025! You’ll get in inside look at Sci-Tech Shabbat in the next post. Until then, we are wishing everyone a restful and reflective Shabbat Shalom.
