After waiting two years, we are so thankful that campers were able to come back to Byfield! From podding by Workshops to wearing masks in activities, camp looked a little different this past session.  However, the Boker Big Bang excitement and the Workshops discoveries still radiated throughout Governors Academy. We started each morning off with a bang and ended each week welcoming in Shabbat with classic Sci-Tech fixtures from Israeli dancing to the Sun Song!

One thing that was still clear is that through evolution and change, the feeling of home and connections made at Sci-Tech remained constant. We emerged back into Byfield just as excited about classic Workshops such as Video Game Design and Digital Film Production and welcomed in new Workshops, which we introduced everyone to last week

We ended this session with TECHTalks, which showcased both accomplishments in workshops and growth this summer! Some campers were selected to give speeches to talk about their experience, expressing sentiments such as “while this is my first year, I feel like I’ve known you all for a lifetime” or “Robotics aren’t just about engineering, they’re about community”. Some even expressed that while at first, they were hesitant about the mixed age halls, they were sold by the end of day two on how “Sci-Techy” camp continued to feel! There’s nothing more beautiful than realizing the connection between STEM, Judaism, and community, and we’re so happy that our campers were able to build connections between those three concepts in Session 1! This summer exemplified that we can hold space for special traditions close to our hearts and create new ones with safety in mind. We are so happy the wait is over and we are back in Byfield!
