Game-A-Thon

Home » Game-A-Thon

This winter, Tuesday, December 19th through Thursday, December 21st, Sci-Tech will be celebrating the warmth of our community through laughter and games!

Sci-Tech is hosting our annual Game-A-Thon as part of our end-of-year scholarship campaign! A game-a-thon is kind of like a walk-a-thon, with teams trying to raise money in donations before walking or, in our case, gaming! Our teams are competing to raise the most donations and get the most views, and they need YOUR help!

Game-a-Thon Hosts: Ezri Abraham, Sean Crancher, & Sophia Goldberg

FAQs

Who Can Attend?

Everyone! Our entire community and our friends from other communities are invited to watch the streams and celebrate all the ways Sci-Tech is a bright light in the lives of our campers and staff! However, since Twitch is a public platform (like Facebook Live), we encourage our younger campers and friends (especially those younger than 13) to log on and watch with an adult!

What’s Happening During the Game-A-Thon?

We have different teams led and run by Sci-Tech staff, staff alumni, and camper alumni. Each team will play a different game in front of our entire community! The games will be broadcast on our Twitch Channel!

How Can I Support My Favorite Team(s)?

You can support your favorite team or teams by either donating to their team by scrolling down and clicking that team on our End-of-Year Campaign page OR by watching them on Twitch on their game day! The team who gets the most views and the team who raises the most money will be getting special prizes!

How do I participate during the streams?

To participate in our Game-A-Thon streams, you must log on to https://www.twitch.tv/URJ6PointsSciTech during the stream! Streaming happens live (like Facebook Live, TikTok Live, etc.), and you can only participate in the chat while the stream is happening. To participate in the chat, you MUST be logged in to a Twitch account! Our streamers will interact with the viewers through the chat, so it’s a great way to be involved!

Do I Need To RSVP?

Nope! You can just show up whenever we’re live at www.Twitch.tv/URJ6PointsSciTech/ during the days and segments you want to see! If you Follow our Channel, you’ll get an automatic alert that we’ve gone live once we’ve started!

Is Twitch free?

Yes! It’s free to watch streamers on Twitch! It’s also free to make a Twitch account and to “follow” accounts like Sci-Tech. Only folks signed in to a Twitch account can use the chatbox feature, so we recommend making one so you can participate fully in the event! Additionally, if you have an Amazon Prime subscription, you can “subscribe” to Sci-Tech for free. All proceeds from Twitch subscriptions go directly to supporting Sci-Tech! You can check out this article to learn more about how to subscribe to a Twitch account using Amazon Prime.

Will the streamers be able to see me?

Nope! Twitch is like Facebook Live, TikTok Live, etc. Unlike a Zoom meeting, Twitch.tv is one-directional, meaning you can see the streamers, but they can’t see you. Streamers interact with their viewers through chat, so we encourage you to create a free account to join in on the fun!

Is Twitch kid-friendly?

Our channel has a strict moderation policy to ensure the group chat stays camp-appropriate. Our streamers always stream with a live human moderator, so there will always be another adult present (in addition to the streamer) to keep the chat friendly, fun, and appropriate. We never play games that use realistic guns or realistic-looking violence. We also use a system provided by Twitch that filters the chat stream for bad language and other camp-inappropriate words, blocking those words before they are used. However, like Facebook and Instagram, Twitch is a public platform with other channels not run by Sci-Tech. This means all campers (including those 13 and older who can have their own Twitch accounts) should only watch Twitch under adult supervision. While there are plenty of kid-friendly channels on Twitch, other streamers also play games rated for teens or adults that do not have the same chat moderation rules as we do. And just like Facebook and Instagram, Twitch is a public platform that is visible to people outside our camp community. Families and campers should follow the same internet-safety practices they use for Instagram and Facebook and SHOULD NOT share any private information while online, including their full name, address, contact information, or any other private information.

Where And When Is The Game-A-Thon Happening?

All Game-A-Thon events will be on our Twitch channel at www.twitch.tv/URJ6PointsSciTech/ through the week of December 19-21, 2023. Multiple teams (with each team playing a different game) will be playing 6 pm ET – 8 pm ET during that time! Join us for any day or just your favorite team! You can stay for the entire stream or watch just a few minutes, whatever works best for you!

Is There A Schedule?

Teams will be playing 6 pm ET – 8 pm ET on December 19 – December 21!

How Will I Know When You Go Live?

If you’ve already made your Twitch account, all you have to do is log into your Twitch account and “follow” our channel by clicking on the purple heart on our homepage at www.Twitch.tv/URJ6PointsSciTech/! Once you do that, you’ll get a notification every time we go live on twitch.

How do I make a Twitch account?

To sign up for a free account, go to Twitch.tv and select the Sign-up button on the top-right portion of the page. To make your account, you need to be 13 years or older, so all campers under 13 should be with their parent/guardian and use their parent/guardian’s account to participate.

What is Twitch?

Twitch.tv (usually called “Twitch”) is a FREE game-enthusiast site specializing in live-streaming video broadcasts of people playing games, solving puzzles, and building things — all while their community watches and enthusiastically joins in on the fun through the chat! It’s a little bit like Facebook or TikTok Live, but on a games-oriented platform/website. You can watch Twitch on the web. The Twitch app is available on streaming devices such as Amazon Fire TV, Roku and Chromecast, game consoles including Xbox and PlayStation, and just about any iOS or Android device. If you or your camper are already into Twitch or game streaming, they are not alone. The service boasts 100 million monthly viewers, with more than 1 million broadcasters entertaining audiences with their live shows daily!

Does Sci-Tech make any money from Twitch?

Sometimes! Streamers on Twitch can make money based on the number of “subscriptions” a streamer has or if the viewers cheer using “bits” during the stream. SUBSCRIBING TO SCI-TECH IS NOT A REQUIREMENT TO WATCH OUR STREAMS, however, if you have an Amazon Prime subscription, you can “subscribe” to Sci-Tech for free! To learn more about how to subscribe to a Twitch account using Amazon Prime check out this article by HowToGeek.com https://www.howtogeek.com/670241/how-to-subscribe-to-a-twitch-streamer-using-amazon-prime/.

Why are you using Twitch?

At Sci-Tech, we are always thinking of how to better #LiveOur6 and explore the world and our passions with our 6 Core Values in mind: Kavod (Respect), Sakranut (Curiosity), Taglit (Discovery), Kesher (Connection), Savlanut (Patience), and the 6th unique value that every individual brings to our community! Streaming services like Twitch.tv are not only a fun new way to engage our community but also a way for us to further experiment with what it means to #LiveOur6 when it comes to new and popular technologies! Our streamers will reflect on our core values while they play and encourage everyone watching the stream to reflect and think about them too.
