Alum of the Month:
Alumni Spotlight: Jake Aloia
Jake Aloia joined our camp family during the Legacy Summer of 2014, and the memories he created here have stayed with him ever since. For Jake, camp was a transformative experience, filled with unforgettable moments that shaped who he is today. Among his most vivid memories are the chaos and camaraderie of trip days and the meaningful connections forged during Teva nights. One particularly special evening during his 10th-grade summer stands out—sitting under the stars, sharing stories, and reflecting on the incredible bond he had formed with his campmates. Even years later, little reminders of camp pop up in Jake’s life, underscoring the lasting impact of the magical, life-shaping experiences he had here.
Since leaving camp, Jake’s journey has been nothing short of inspiring. After being accepted into Bard College at Simon’s Rock following his sophomore year of high school, he recently graduated with dual majors in Psychology and Criminology, along with a minor in Emergency Medicine. His senior thesis explored practical solutions for addressing systemic issues in the mental health space—a topic close to his heart. Now based in Boston, Jake is actively making a difference, working and volunteering in the legal and mental health fields while also serving as an EMT.
Looking ahead, Jake envisions pursuing graduate studies in either law, psychology, or perhaps a combination of both. His passion for criminal justice and mental health continues to drive his aspirations. Whether advocating for mental health reform or addressing challenges within the legal system, Jake is committed to creating meaningful change in the spaces that matter most to him.
When asked to share advice for new campers, Jake offers heartfelt wisdom: “Don’t take for granted the magic of Sci-Tech. It’s a place where you can truly be yourself and find people who make you feel whole.” For Jake, camp wasn’t just a summer experience—it was where he met his significant other and made lifelong friends. “Allow yourself to be open,” he advises, “because this is a special place where lifelong memories and connections are made.”
