If you ask any former or current Sci-Tech camper or staff their three favorite things about camp, “the food” will always be one of the answers. Having experienced the food at camp firsthand, I can tell you, without a doubt, that it is on a level of its own. Each summer leading up to camp I dream of crispy Tetris tater-tots at breakfast, a light refreshing salad at lunch, savory grilled salmon at dinner, and the chewy blondie-oreo bar for dessert. However, it is not only the quality of the food available at camp, but also the variety that makes eating at camp so tasty. And just like the food, the quality and variety off all aspects of Sci-Tech are what make camp so enjoyable.

For the first time this summer, Sci-Tech is offering its Taste of Camp program to give rising 4th and 5th graders the opportunity to experience a little bit of everything that Sci-Tech has to offer (including the fantastic food!). In the typical full two-week session, campers participate in one workshop almost every day and develop an advanced project to share with the rest of camp. Since two weeks can be a long time away from home and many workshops can sound exciting, we wanted to provide a unique opportunity to our youngest campers to experience a concentrated taste of what makes camp so special.

During Taste of Camp, campers will be in their own workshop where we will explore robotics, video game design, digital media, and chemistry. By tasting bits of Sci-Tech’s most popular workshops, we hope campers will find new passions in STEM while building their already blooming interests. Outside of the workshop, campers will attend activities and live with lower camp (grades 5-7), where they will taste from the variety of electives offered by our passionate counselors and staff, get active through sports or athletics, develop friendships in their halls, attend Shabbat services and song session, and (of course) eat delicious food.

As someone who has worked or volunteered at camp since its first summer in 2014, I have experienced, developed, and/or taught several workshops and electives. From diet coke and mentos explosions to Photoshop digital media projects, I encourage campers to explore the unknown, test hypotheses, and create without bounds. I can’t wait to share all my favorite parts with Sci-Tech’s youngest campers and help them experience those “Ah-ha” moments as part of a community that values and celebrates the union of science, technology, and Judaism. And of course, I am looking forward to the food!
