Camp is my favorite place to celebrate Shabbat. Everyone in white, everyone coming together to celebrate such a beautiful, peaceful, restful time. As you might have guessed, the singing is what brings me in.
When I was in high school, in youth group, you couldn’t believe there are teens who loved to sing in Hebrew, in harmony and totally excited about Judaism. All I wanted to do was sing and hang out with my NFTY friends.
I bought the NFTY chord book that had all the songs in it with the guitar chords. I would sit in my room and play on my guitar one song after another.
I have been away from camp and my NFTY community for almost ten years and coming to Sci-Tech this summer has brought me back to what hooked me in the first place.
Thank you, Sci-Tech for welcoming me with open arms. You’ve taught me so much about how to see Judaism with a science mind and thank you for reminding me how much I love Shabbat at camp.
Shabbat Shalom.
