Every summer at URJ 6 Points Sci-Tech Academy, campers build robots, design video games, launch rockets, and tackle engineering challenges. But three times each summer, the schedule changes, the chugs pause, and sudenly…… dinosaurs run into camp?!?!
Welcome to Quest Day.
Quest Day is part scavenger hunt, part collaborative challenge, and part live-action role-playing game. Each Quest Day begins with a story: maybe three dinosaurs need help escaping an erupting volcano, or astronauts are stranded on a distant planet. Every camper is assigned to help one of the story’s characters by completing challenges throughout the day that earn them “stats” like teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving.
Those stats come into play during the day’s grand finale, when the entire camp gathers for a live RPG. Campers help decide what their characters do, and every group contributes to overcoming obstacles and reaching a shared goal. Success isn’t about one team winning, it’s about everyone working together to move the story forward.
Quest Day is also a chance for our oldest campers to step into leadership roles. Tenth graders help create props, run activities, and bring the story to life as the characters campers have been helping all day.
While Quest Day is full of imagination and silly fun, it’s also a celebration of the skills we value every day at camp: creativity, collaboration, communication, and problem-solving. It’s a reminder that sometimes the best way to learn is through a great adventure.
