3D Animation

Joseph Zaffuto – Lead Instructor

Hello! My name is Joe Zaffuto and I am the lead animation instructor here at Six Points. I was born on Long Island, NY where I developed a passion for animation at an early age. I worked in the animation industry for 11 years in feature films and video games, and more recently, teach Animation Technology as an Adjunct Instructor at Sanford-Brown College in Orlando, Florida.

Eric Durr – Assistant Lead Instructor

I am from Indianapolis Indiana. I am a Senior at Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) in Indianapolis, Indiana. I am excited to be an instructor for 3D animation at Sci-Tech for the first time. When I was approached about this position due to my past experience teaching animation as well as working with kids, I was excited and applied as soon as possible because I love teaching kids about 3D art.

BioZone: Sci-Tech MD (Medical Diagnoses)

Tanya Zeina –  Lead Instructor

Hi everyone! I’m Tanya Zeina, a medical student at Tufts University School of Medicine. Originally, I am from upstate New York and love to visit home often. This is my first summer at camp, and I will be a lead instructor for the Medical Diagnoses course. I loved the educational, yet fun atmosphere of Sci-Tech, and knew I had to work a summer there. I’m nervous, but very excited to meet many new faces!

Digital Film Production

Lillian Feldman-Hill – Lead Instructor

I am originally from Columbus, Ohio and currently reside in Washington, DC. During the “off-season,” I am the Youth Engagement Coordinator for a Reform temple in Kensinton, MD, supervising several youth groups, educational retreats, and teen leadership programs. With a BA from Indiana University in Film Design and several years as a freelance editor in LA under my belt, I am thrilled to be returning for my 4th summer as the Digital Film Production Lead Instructor at my favorite camp on earth! As a product of URJ camps and NFTY, with a strong connection to Reform Judaism and Summer Camps, I am passionate about providing a nourishing environments for young Jewish souls. Along with my cinematic past, I am interested and experienced in Video Games, performing arts, Jewish experiential education, anthropology, and science fiction.

Brenna Williams – Assistant Lead Instructor

I’m from Newburyport, MA and will be a senior film student at Ithaca College in the fall. The past three years I’ve studied to become a great filmmaker and am excited to share that with the campers this summer as the assistant lead film instructor. I want campers to be able to make movies and utilize the dynamic medium to tell stories, but also have fun while doing it. When I was growing up, summer camp was the place to have fun, meet new people, and make lasting memories. This is my first summer at 6-Points Sci Tech, and I’m excited to get to know the other staff and all the campers and make this an unforgettable experience!

Earth and Sky: Astronomy and the World Above!

Kate Murdock – Lead Instructor

I’m from the North Shore of Massachusetts, so camp is in my backyard. During the rest of the year I’m a college professor and teach classes in geology, geophysics, and environmental science. I will be the Lead Instructor for Earth & Sky, and this will be my 4th year in this role. I love working at Sci-Tech because everyone — leadership, counselors, and campers — are as excited about science and learning as I am!

Forensics

Chelsea Hunsucker – Lead Instructor

My name is Chelsea Hunsucker and I am the lead forensics instructor for Sci-Tech this summer. I come from Oklahoma, where I attend Oklahoma State University (OSU) as a PhD student. I earned my masters degree at OSU in forensic science. This is my second year back to Sci-Tech. I attended last year and had SO much fun teaching forensic techniques and crime scene investigation that I could not wait to return. I am working on some really fun ideas and cool surprises in store for this summer. It fills my heart with so much gladness to share what I love about science with youth who are just as excited to learn as I am!

Programming and Coding

Josh Birnholz – Lead Instructor

Hi, I’m Josh! I’m an iOS app developer from Orlando, Florida, and this will be my third summer at Sci-Tech! In the past I’ve been a counselor and lead chugim (electives) on programming, computer logic, and Minecraft. This year, I will be one of the lead instructors for the programming workshop, and it’s going to be amazing! I chose to work at Sci-Tech because I loved going to camp when I was growing up, and a chance to combine that with science and technology sounded amazing. When I’m not at camp, I’m making iPhone apps, playing around with new technology, or playing Nintendo games with my friends!

Michaela Freed – Lead Instructor

My name is Michaela and I’m from Wellesley, MA. I just graduated from the University of Delaware where I studied mechanical engineering and computer science. In the fall, I’ll start working as a Software Engineer at Bose. This is my second summer at Sci-Tech. Two years ago, I was a programming specialist, and I’m so happy to be returning as the one of the Lead Programming Instructors! I love working at Sci-Tech because I love being a role model for girls in STEM and inspiring kids to do what they love!

Robotics

Devon Barker – Leader Instructor

Hello, Sci-Tech! I am thrilled to come back for a fourth year as the Lead Robotics Instructor. Since last summer I have moved from Colorado to Massachusetts and started working full time at Temple Beth Elohim as a Youth Engagement Specialist. It is a lot of fun! Have you ever had the feeling of ‘this is where I should be’? Well, now I get that at both of my jobs. I truly love working at Sci-Tech because day after day I get to work with outstanding youth and get to see them create unique designs, friendships, and find their passions. (Plus we get to blow something up every morning) I can’t wait for another outstanding summer! See you really soon!

Jacob Paikoff – Lead Instructor

Hi, I’m Jacob Paikoff, originally from Oldsmar, FL. This will be my fourth summer at camp, and I will be one of the Lead Robotics Instructors. During the rest of the year, I am a graduate student at the University of South Florida, studying entrepreneurship. Additionally, I am involved in the FIRST Robotics Competition, mentoring teams and helping to run robotics events around the country. I started working at Sci-Tech the first summer it was open, when I was a senior in college. I expected that it would be my only camp summer before getting a job or going to graduate school, but I’m still here, four years later! I keep coming back to Sci-Tech every summer because I love seeing the ideas the campers come up with in Robotics and the excitement they have every day at camp. I also like helping out around camp with Boker Big Bangs and Shabbat Campfires.

Video Game Design

Danny Fain – Lead Instructor

I have been a STEM teacher and gameful educator for over 18 years at the middle- and high-school level, pioneering and facilitating the use and design of digital games in a variety of classroom settings. Along with several years of teaching game/simulation design at the Learning Prep School (Newton, MA) and the Acera School of Science, Creativity & Leadership (Winchester, MA), I contributed as a team leader and coach in the Learning Games Network’s Game Design summer camps in 2010 – 2013. I have been the Lead Instructor of the Videogame Design workshop at URJ’s 6Points Sci/Tech camp in every summer since 2014. On the design side, as part of a multinational team, I was the lead designer of a mobile game about endangered-species conservation (now on sale in the Apple and Android app stores). I earned my SB in Geoscience at MIT, where I also completed the Teacher Education Program.

Max Maynard – Assistant Lead Instructor

My name is Max. I’m from San Jose, California, near San Francisco. I’m a game designer that recently graduated from the University of Southern California, and I’m will be at 6 Points Sci-Tech to help teach game design to aspiring developers. This is my first time at Sci-Tech, but I’m looking forward to helping kids explore game design and their interest in it.
