by Alan Friedman, Executive Director
It is with great excitement and enthusiasm that I am writing today to introduce our new Camp Director for 6 Points Sports North Carolina Danny Herz. Danny will join our year round team effective October 19th. I will serve as the Executive Director of our sports camps in North Carolina and California. Even though I’ve moved to California to open the URJ’s newest 6 Points Sports Academy I remain fully committed and involved with our North Carolina Camp.
Danny Herz has called URJ 6 Points Sports Academy his home since the inception of our camp in 2010 as our Head Basketball Coach. Danny’s passion for Jewish overnight camps grew significantly each summer at 6 Points as he personally saw the magic of 6 Points as camper after camper had their Jewish identity strengthened while receiving elite coaching at camp.
A native South African, Danny has been committed to Jewish sports since 1999 when he started volunteer coaching the JCC Maccabi Games, and has continued to be involved on both a local, national, and international level with the Games – including leading teams to medals in both Brazil and Israel. Danny’s involvement with Jewish sports then evolved into working with Jewish summer camps in 2002, when he started working at the JCC camp in Boca Raton, Florida.
Prior to his full time role at camp, Danny served on the senior administrative team at Jewish schools in Southern California and in South Florida. His full time duties in education include having worked as a teacher, coach, dean of students and athletic director since 2001.
Danny’s extensive coaching career includes being the first coach in Broward County, Florida to coach a McDonald’s All-American, coaching the first team from the state of Florida to play on ESPN, and over 20 of his former student athletes continued their educational pursuits while playing NCAA basketball.
Danny earned his Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management from the University of Florida (home of his beloved Gators) and his Master’s degree in Athletic Administration from Ohio University.
Danny’s goal is to provide a safe and fun environment for campers to continue their Jewish journey as well as their athletic and personal development.
Please join me, and our full-time staff David, Sam and Tammy as we welcome and wish Danny great success as our new Camp Director.
